Behind the Build: Seiko Spork-Inspired Mods
The Seiko catalog is full of obscure sounding reference numbers so Seiko fans give their favorite watches endearing and sometimes funny names. This phenomenon adds to Seiko’s personality as a brand, and makes some models stand out from the pack.
Today we are going to look at the watch nicknamed the Spork. Produced from 2009 to 2011, the nickname ‘Spork’ is thought to be a rearrangement of "SRP043K".
Other people think the nickname was given because the watch is a combination of a Diver watch case and a Pilot watch dial. It is similar to a combination of Spoon and Fork Spork that people use when camping - called a Spork.
The Seiko Spork is a very popular Seiko model that has been out of production for a while, but you can use SKX007 Parts to make your own version today!
Specs of the Spork
The Spork was the first pro diver from Seiko to house the 4R15 movement and it packs a great 50-hour power reserve. The dial is clearly based on a classic pilot dial, and is instantly recognizable.
Like any pilot dial, the Spork’s dial is simple to read, and with large lume-painted numbers, it shines like a torch in the dark. It also has pilot style hands, and a date window at the 4:30 position, one of the more unusual spots for such.

The pilot watch influence on the Spork ends at the dial and hands. The case is 100% Seiko diver, and it has a great black bezel insert, with the crown at 4 o’clock. The crown seems as its from a Seiko Monster as the designs of the two are strikingly similar.
In terms of size, the Spork is a little bit bigger than the SKX007, coming in at around 44mm in diameter, and 14mm thick. Unlike the classic SKX007, the Spork has 20mm lugs, which gives it a different look overall.
While the 20mm lugs might seem small for a watch case of this size, the bracelet overhangs the lugs, and makes the watch look a lot bigger. It is a great effect, and adds to the uniqueness of the Spork.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Spork is the easy-to-read dial, which is clearly based on a modern Pilot style watch dial.
We offer the Spork Black Finish dial, which even has the correct date window position. However, note that our dial has been adjusted so it works nicely with NH35/36 movements (the OEM Spork dial may cause misalignment).

Hands
