The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Rabbit of Chopard

Launching a new zodiac-themed watch with an L.U.C movement to celebrate the Lunar New Year has become the tradition with Chopard. This year’s release is not only a work of gold and lacquer but also beautiful mechanics.

Chopard produces a series dedicated to the Chinese zodiac sign of the current year. The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Rabbit timepiece celebrates the advent of the Lunar New Year through an original 88-piece series.

The 39.5 mm-diameter cases in ethical 18-carat rose gold frames a dial portraying the rabbit and its relationship with the moon. Its dial graced with Urushi lacquer, gold powder, and mother-of-pearl inlays is made by master artist Minori Koizumi, a Japanese artisan with incredible skills.

In legends, the rabbit inhabits a jade moon which it keeps company. It represents prudence and agility. In combination with the element that characterizes the year of the water rabbit, this heralds longevity, peace, and prosperity.

The dial is created with two rabbits, one gray and the other red. Both frolic under a full moon in a landscape dotted with Chinese olive trees, a fragrant Asian native shrub that also symbolizes success and achievement, qualities often associated with the rabbit.

Not only that, but the scene also suggests the energy, intelligence, and alertness of the rabbit.

The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Rabbit is an ultra-thin timepiece that is a mere 6.80 mm thick in addition to its graceful design and refined ornamental execution. It also uses a 22 karat gold micro rotor, which makes the back of this timepiece as beautiful as the face.

Although this is an expensive watch, it is very rare, and should hold its value as both a piece of art, and a timepiece.

The Altiplano Rabbit by Piaget

Source: Business Today

Like Chopard, Piaget is one of the other watchmakers in the industry and also offers an annual Zodiac Animal limited edition for the Lunar New Year.

Limited to just 38 pieces, the series features an enamel dial using grand feu and cloisonné techniques produced by master enameler Anita Porchet to depict the zodiac animal every year.

The technology is what is most intriguing about the series. It uses shadowing to add depth to the drawing. On an enamel dial, this is achieved by using an incredibly fine brush to blend the enamel colors.

The Zodiac sign is the Rabbit, and Porchet painted a pair of Vienna rabbits on a snowy background. The lifelike animal depiction is framed in a 38mm 18K white gold case set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds.

As a part of the Altiplano series, this watch is less than 3mm thick, which makes it extremely easy to wear.

The Classique 9075 2023 Chinese New Year Edition of Breguet

The Classique 9075 will make you smile with its playful dial, and dazzle you with amazing craftsmanship. There’s a prancing-rabbit motif that manages to be whimsical without being bold and loud but also retains the elegance of any Breguet.

The dial of the Classique 9075 is created with enamel and features an illustration of Champleve rabbits.

Covered in translucent blue enamel, there is bamboo foliage and flowers that are hand engraved at its center, creating a beautiful contrast with the six rabbits frolicking underneath billowing clouds.

The watch comes with an 18k white gold case set with 88 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel and lugs.

However, the Classique 9075 is a women’s watch with a compact case diameter of 33.5 mm as well as the diamonds on the bezel and lugs. As the watch is limited to only eight pieces, this watch is very unlikely to be seen outside of an exclusive boutique!

The Métiers d’Art Year of the Rabbit from Vacheron Constantin

Source: Watch Collecting Lifestyle

To mark the beginning of the Lunar New Year, Vacheron Constantin is offering two limited editions, called the Métiers d’Art Year of the Rabbit. Each is produced in a limited edition of 12 watches, and this rabbit-themed model is really over the top.

The master engravers and enamellers give rise to sublime dials featuring the consecrated animal. A massive rabbit is in the middle of the dial, and the background of the enameled features an elaborate plant motif.

There are no hour or minute hands, as the time data is displayed in four separate apertures on the four corners of the dial. One indicates the hours, another the minutes, the third the day, and the last the date. This watch has a diameter of 40mm, and comes in rose gold, or platinum on request.

Much like the latest limited edition Ferrari, if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it!
